Experimental Investigation of Turbulent Shear Flow by PIV 

Abstract Whole field velocity measurement using particle image velocimetry (PIV) provides an instantaneous picture of the entire flowfield. PIV is a very important method fo r studying turbulence and coherent vortical structures.

This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation of a free jet and a plane mixing layer by using the PIV technique. Two different optical arr angements for the PIV measurements are compared.
